I should also mention that for those six days I was travelling solo, and that I'm a female in my late 20's. Not once did I feel uncomfortable. Actually not once did I feel like I was travelling alone, either. Rather it felt like I was simply on a road trip with a friend who happened to be very knowledgeable about the country and very well-connected (it really does seem he knows everyone... at least all the right people). I had a fantastic time, and I am sure that I can largely attribute this to Hasina. As others have already mentioned, he is very attentive to what you want to get out of your trip - just mention it and he'll arrange it. A personable nature and fluency in nearly all of the Malagasy dialects helps him facilitate everything from great meals to spontaneous visits with roadside villagers. He also knows some great restaurants, hotels, etc that are not horribly expensive yet still of high quality.
Highly recommended and inexpensive driver/guide for Madagascar
I spent two weeks traveling through Madagascar with two friends and Hasina in the summer of 2010. We could not have asked for a more amazing experience. Hasina took us to many places we would never have found on our own and arranged incredible experiences we could never have arranged ourselves, including two amazing highlights: taking us to his friend's famadiana (the "turning of the bones," something few visitors ever get to see), and arranging a fantastic private concert with Oledad, the band he manages, who happens to be one of the most popular bands in Madagascar. We helped him set up this website because we were so impressed with him as a guide and wanted to help connect him with more international customers. Madagascar's public transportation is slow, uncomfortable, and disorganized and you will be very happy you have your own car and Hasina to drive it. You can see so much more this way. I cannot recommend him highly enough to make your trip one you will never forget.
We could not have asked for a better guide!!!
